1776 (ca. 1950) Washington Before Boston Medal. Third United States Mint Issue. Musante GW-09-US3, Julian MI-1. Silver. About Uncirculated.67.8 mm. 2589.8 grains. Light pewter gray silver with mild handling. Clearly one of the circa 1950s impressions from modern Mint dies as described by Musante, though he did not list this medal in silver. Apparently rare in silver, as we find none in our online archives, and perhaps part of a special order considering the several silver Mint Medals of similar vintage that accompanied this in a recent consignment. With a flawed A.N.A.A.B. certificate identifying this as Julian MI-2 (which would be the Horatio Gates medal). XRF tested as 97.7% silver, 2.3% copper.
