DENMARK. Skilling, 1514. Malmö Mint. Christian II. NGC VF-35.Galster-39A; Sieg-3.1; Schou-1; Bruun-3917. Weight: 2.46 gms. Mintmaster: Dines Blicher. The technical grade is certainly overly conservative. Apart from a small area with a weak strike the present example is both sharply struck and retains a significant amount of luster. Excessively rare and interesting early type.
The fact that the crown of the king is nimbate means that the standing figure is not a representation of Christian II but rather a predecessor on the Danish throne, Canute IV (1080-1086) who was recognized by the Roman Catholic Church as patron saint of Denmark in 1101.
From the L.
