COSTA RICA. Republica de Costa Rica. 50 Colones, ND (1917). P-150s. Specimen. PMG Gem Uncirculated 65 EPQ. An unissued type from the Republica de Costa Rica prepared by the American Bank Note Company. This (and the 100 Colones of the same design) was the brainchild of the government of Frederico Tinoco Granados, who requested a loan from private banks to issue new notes and withdraw the private banknotes still in circulation by issuing these notes. When his government fell in August of 1919, the project was abandoned, and these specimens printed by ABNC in preparation for the issue are all that remain. This Gem Uncirculated example is tied with a trio of others as finest in the PMG population report and includes the top selvage. PMG Comments "Selvage Included."
