Amongst the loftiest of RARITIES in the entire Hong Kong series, this medallic type provides a nice twist on the classic Hong Kong Dollar theme with a reverse inscription commemorating the inauguration of the Old Hong Kong City Hall. Many retained details are present across the surfaces, with only a light bit of handling evidence of the highest elements. Slight friction is also noted for completeness, though this does not detract too much from the appeal of this example, as it retains strong shimmering appeal. An example that will certainly be appreciated by all specialists in Hong Kong coinage. Old City Hall in Hong Kong was completed in 1869 after two years of construction and differed from many other Public buildings in that it did not house government offices, but was rather only used for public purposes. A theater, library and museum were among the many rooms available for public use.
