Representing one of the earliest Pattern Dollars for Hong Kong, this Dollar can boast a history and pedigree that is far beyond what almost all other emissions related to Hong Kong. Standing at the beginning edge of the effort to supplant varied circulating currencies in Hong Kong with a unified Hong Kong Dollar, this Dollar provides amongst the first evidence of Hong Kongs growing status as a major influence on the world stage. This example, while having faults as evidence by the noted tooling and a likely past cleaning, is yet wholesome with strong remaining details. Only a slight touch of wear is seen on the braid of Victoria, with the intricate details of her crown and garlanding still being present. Soft toning has started to reappear around the peripheries, being most forceful on the reverse. Given the absurd RARITY of the piece, and the famous pedigree, we expect many exuberant bidders to gleefully participate in this lot, as the chance to hold history in ones hands is seldom so palpable.
