In 1777 Samuel Pleasants was jailed due to his failure to support the war against Britain. Thomas Clifford was a prominent merchant who was also a Quaker. Printed by D. Hall and W. Sellers, 1772. Plate A. This is the first issue with James Smither as engraver of the border cuts. Only a single better example has been graded by PMG, with neither service showing anything better than 66 PQ.
