1786 New Jersey Copper. Maris 18-N, W-4895. Rarity-5+. Bridle, Wide Shield. VF-20 (PCGS). 147.3 grains. A very handsome example of this rare Bridle variety. Two-tone contrast between light brown devices and deep mahogany fields lends special eye appeal to both sides. Glossy though not perfectly smooth, pretty well centered but a bit aligned toward 6 oclock on the obverse, typical for the variety. The date is not bold but it is present. The five coins in the SHI census range from VF+ to EF+. The 2019 EPU coin was also a PCGS VF-20, though the Martin specimen was just VG Details. Partrick lacked this Maris number entirely. PCGS# 767878. From the E Pluribus Unum Collection.
