Obverse: Nhat Duc, fish at sides; Reverse: Tu Duc Thong Bao. Tied for second finest certified of the type with one other example on the PCGS population report, only one finer. This nicely preserved Choice Uncirculated example boasts sharply struck bold devices, lustrous surfaces and lovely mottled patina with a iridescent sheen that pops out when tilted in the light. Wholly original looking, clearly this piece was plucked from circulation early on and given great care. Seldom encountered in this high state of preservation, and should be considered RARE and desirable. <em>The obverse inscription on this issue Nhat Duc (Perfect Virtue) is borrowed from the title chapter of the Ancient Annals. This issue is often referred to as Cua Toi Mot Duc Thi Nhu Ca Nuoc Duyen Hai (The King and his ministers have but a unique virtue, such as the nice harmony of fish and water). It is said that emperor Thang (1766-53 B.C.) and his minister Y Doan (died 1713 B.C.) were the two men whose virtue was pure and perfect and are officially recognized in China as wise men.</em>From the Nguyen Dynasty Collection.
