PCGS Banknote Fine 12.As seasoned collectors are well aware, the National Gold Bank Notes of California of the early 1870s are among the rarest and most desirable of all U.S. Currency issues. Typically found in low grades, they routinely command four-figure prices even in grades of Fair 2. This $10 note from the National Gold Bank of D.O. Mills and Co. in Sacramento is therefore a relatively high grade, having been certified as a Fine 12 by PCGS Banknote. While the paper has yellowed somewhat, the red serial numbers and seal still stand out clearly as do the ink signatures at bottom. The face of the note is extremely well-centered and all design details remain clear, given the grade. Additionally this note has seen no repair or restoration, which is often seen on this series. The opportunity to acquire a totally original and problem-free example comes along infrequently at best, and we trust that collectors of National Gold Bank Notes will give it the attention and respect it deserves.
