Fr. 2407. 1928 $500 Gold Certificate. PMG Gem Uncirculated 65 EPQ.With just around 100 pieces known Series of 1928 $500 Gold Certificates are easily considered one of the key notes to any small size U.S. currency collection. Given the rarity of any denomination over $100, the survival of a gem quality $500 gold certificate is quite an uncommon occurrence. The legal status of all Gold Certificates was revoked at the end of 1933 and not restored until April 1964, leading to a roughly 30-year period when these were traded "under the table" by dealers and collectors. This note is a Gem in all respects - with four good margins, original creamy white paper with exceptional embossing, ideal printing and a bright, vivid green back. A PMG 64 EPQ sold earlier this year for $114,000 in public auction, so we except this superior note to reach well into our estimate . A true rarity with just a single example certified as finer, this is an important opportunity for small-size type collectors and a note that will almost certainly boost their Registry set rating! PMG Pop 3/1 finer.
From the Mid-Continent Collection.
