Fr. 293. 1886 $10 Silver Certificate. PCGS Banknote Very Fine 25.The early (1886) design of the popular Tombstone note with large red seal. Depicted within a tombstone-shaped frame is Thomas A. Hendricks, vice president of the United States under the first administration of Grover Cleveland, serving from March 4, 1885 until his death on November 25, 1885. Likely, when the Series of 1886 Silver Certificates were being conceived, Hendricks passing was still being mourned, and President Cleveland approved of the posthumous honor conferred upon his erstwhile vice president. While the present note shows moderate circulation, it is well-centered and problem-free save for a small hole near the top margin noted on the back of the holder. PCGS Banknote Comments "Small Hole".
