Fr. 327. 1880 $50 Silver Certificate. PMG Very Fine 20.This is a rare higher denomination banknote from a highly regarded and desirable series. The 1880 Silver Certificates all feature the famous black back designs which prominently display the word "Silver" across the length of the paper on the verso. This was done primarily to instill confidence in paper money among the general public. On the face, the portrait of Edward Everett is prominent at right. A large brown Treasury Seal is at top center with brown Roman numeral L below. The engraved signatures of Bruce and Wyman are stacked to the bottom right. Just eleven notes are recorded in Track & Prices census for this catalog number. We have not offered this catalog number to our bidders since our August 2018 ANA auction, when we sold Part II of the Joel R. Anderson Collection. This note once presided in the collection of Amon Carter. PMG comments "Minor Restoration".
