Wonderful silvery surfaces join a diamond-sharp strike for this one-of-a-kind medal destined to be the showpiece of some great collection. According to the annual Mint report, 40 silver and two bronze examples of the 1902 Assay Commission medal were delivered to the coiner on January 17 of that year. Restrikes were made in 1906 and 1907, one each in silver and bronze. The obverse design depicts the new Philadelphia Mint building. The present unlisted white metal example originated in the famous Virgil M. Brand Collection and is accompanied by the original fitted case lined with purple velvet.
