1849 Lieutenant Colonel Bliss, Mexican-American War Medal. By Charles Cushing Wright. Julian MI-28. Bronze. MS-64 BN (NGC).70.5 mm. A lovely example of this elusive type, both sides exhibit subtle marbling to autumn-brown patina. The lightest friction to the high points is easily overlooked, as are a few inoffensive carbon spots that engage some of the peripheral letters on the obverse. Sharply defined and free of troublesome marks. The last specimen of this medal we offered was in our March 2014 Baltimore Auction. As we noted then and for our few other historical offerings, "this medal is a key rarity of the Mints military medals."
