HONORIUS, A.D. 393-423. AV Solidus (4.33 gms), Constantinople Mint, 10th Officina, ca. A.D. 408-420. NGC EF, Strike: 5/5 Surface: 3/5. Clipped, Scratch, Edge Marks. RIC-201. Obverse: Pearl-diademed, helmeted, and cuirassed bust facing slightly right, holding spear and shield; Reverse: Constantinopolis seated facing, head right, with right foot on prow, holding scepter and Victory on globe; star to left. Slightly underweight due to clipping and displaying a superficial scratch on the obverse field. Otherwise, a quite attractive Constantinopolitan-style Solidus of the western emperor Honorius. The surfaces exhibit minor deposits that add boldness to the devices. Ex: Christies New York (05/1984), Lot # 532.
