1824/2 Matron Head Cent. N-5. Rarity-4. AU Details--Damage (PCGS). An outstanding example of this scarce variety, the tougher of the two overdate die pairs and the rarest variety of the 1824 date. Slightly lustrous deep brown surfaces and very sharp detail that is just barely worn. A few marks at the center of each side explain the PCGS qualifier, but the surface quality otherwise is excellent. Overall eye appeal remains positive. Noyes photo #27549, CC#3 in his census as EAC EF-40 net VF-35. An important piece for the variety collector and comes with a nice provenance. PCGS# 36781. NGC ID: 225E.
