元朝大朝通宝银币， 23.2x1.9mm, 重3.7克，中乾评78大朝通宝是成吉思汗於1227年把蒙古帝国改名為“元”之前发行的。出於对辽朝建国者阿保机的尊重，成吉思汗把新国家命名為“大朝”，因為汉字“大”字比“天”字少了一笔，这反映出成吉思汗的巧思。China: Yuan Dynasty, Da Chao Tong Bao, (1271-1368), silver coin, 23.2x1.9mm, 3.7g, Zhong Qian 78. Da Chao Tong Bao was issued by Genghis Khan in 1227 before he renamed the Mongol Empire as Yuan. Out of respect for the Khitan leader Abaoji who united northern China and founded the Liao Dynasty in 907 he named his new state Da Chao as the Chinese character Da has one stroke less than the word Tian. Tian Chao or Heavenly Kingdom, as it might be translated in English, is the respectful name Genghis Khan called the Liao Dynasty. [123]
