China: Yuan Dynasty, Da Chao Tong Bao, (1271-1368), silver coin, 23.2x1.9mm, 3.7g, Zhong Qian 78. Da Chao Tong Bao was issued by Genghis Khan in 1227 before he renamed the Mongol Empire as Yuan. Out of respect for the Khitan leader Abaoji who united northern China and founded the Liao Dynasty in 907 he named his new state Da Chao as the Chinese character Da has one stroke less than the word Tian. Tian Chao or Heavenly Kingdom, as it might be translated in English, is the respectful name Genghis Khan called the Liao Dynasty. [123]
