BOLIVIA. Cob 4 Reales, 1651-P. Potosi Mint; Assayer Juan Rodriguez de Rodas (O). Philip IV. PCGS VF-30.KM-17B; Cal-1107. Weight: 13.84 gms. A beautiful Cob, well-struck and generously detailed. Struck in the year before the historic coinage reform, this issue is quite RARE as many were melted down. The obverse shows a nearly complete Habsburg crowned shield, with a clear mintmark and assayers mark to its left along with a fragment of the outer legend reading "NIARV". The reverse displays nearly complete octolobes and cross, interrupted only by some areas of weak strike. The crucial final two digits of the date are displayed boldly. Both sides exhibit a pleasing mottled gray toning. To view all items from the Pat Johnson Collection, click here. From the Pat Johnson Collection.Privately purchased from Mike Dunigan.
