BOLIVIA. Cob 4 Reales, 1651-P. Potosi Mint, Assayer Antonia de Ergueta (E). Philip IV. PCGS EF-40; Countermark: AU Details.KM-17B; Cal-1108. Weight: 13.15 gms. An intriguing teardrop-shaped 4 Reales piece. The obverse displays a mintmark and assayers initial to the left of the Habsburg shield, which retains generous detail on its surviving sections. Below the initial is a bold crowned "F" countermark, intended to revalue the piece at 3 3/4 Reales. The reverse is slightly off-center and has areas of weakness, but displays mostly complete castles and lions. The surfaces are steely-gray with minimal signs of corrosion. An appealing example of this SCARCE issue. To view all items from the Pat Johnson Collection, click here. From the Pat Johnson Collection.
Privately purchased from Mike Dunigan.
