A 51ST / REGT. / MASS VOLS / 18th AC.<p>The 51st Regiment Massachusetts Volunteer Infantry was assigned to Major General John G. Fosters Department of North Carolina, later designated as the XVIII Corps. While based in New Bern, North Carolina, the 51st Massachusetts took part in several expeditions in December 1862, including the Battle of Kinston, the Battle of White Hall and the Battle of Goldsboro Bridge.<p>Assigned to the 18th Corps from January to June, 1863, Company A was stationed in Morehead City on the east coast of North Carolina.
