SYRIA. Seleukid Kingdom. Antiochos I Soter, 281-261 B.C. AR Tetradrachm (17.07 gms), Seleukeia on the Tigris Mint. NGC AU★, Strike: 5/5 Surface: 4/5. HGC-9, 128g; SC-379.3d. Obverse: Diademed head right; Reverse: Apollo, testing arrow and resting hand upon grounded bow to right, seated left on omphalos; monograms to outer left and right. Boldly struck on a somewhat compact flan, this highly impressive specimen is free from issue and exhibits very little in the way of handling. The level of relief on the obverse is quite extraordinary, and allows for a very expressive portrait of the king. From the Mark and Lottie Salton Collection.
