UNITED STATES OF AMERICA. Silver Dwight D. Eisenhower South America Appriciation Medal, 1960. Philadelphia Mint. NGC Unc Details--Cleaned. Mintage: 1,750 (1,200 originals, plus 500 from a subsequent order). "South America" in two lines with date "1960" below; Reverse: "With Appreciation From" in three line flanked torches on either side, stars near edge, signature of Dwight D. Eisenhower below. An attractive and simple design, this medal offers a good strike with light signs of being cleaned long ago now slightly subdued by rich mottled envelope patina. This SCARCE medal seldom appears on the market and is sure to be a welcome addition to an advanced collection of presidential memorabilia.
During President Eisenhowers 1960 visit to South America he presented these appreciation medals to individuals in the four different countries that he visited which included Brazil, Argentina, Chile and Uruguay.
