Obverse: Ship (<em>Kalmar Nyckel</em>) under sail left upon the waters; below, two inward facing dolphins; Reverse: Highly detailed and decorative map of New Sweden along the Delaware River, with trees, stags, colonists, Native Americans, forts, and a ship; crowned cartouche inscribed NOVA SVECIA to lower right. Deep chocolate brown surfaces, with a charming matte nature. An extremely interesting colonial American commemorative, with numerous locations references, such as Philadelphia, Ft. Nassau, North Wasa, Lapland, Ft. Christina, Ft. Casimir, and Ft. Elfsborg. This variant differs from the more commonly encountered type in that the reverse legend starts at the bottom rather than the top, while also featuring a different date in the cartouche (<em>here, it is presented as 1638-1938, as opposed to 1638-1655 on the more commonly seen type</em>). <strong>VERY RARE</strong> and interesting, and a great companion piece to the Delaware commemorative half dollar depicting the same ship.
