1904 Liberty Head Double Eagle--Obverse Lamination--MS-62 (NGC). Sharply struck and otherwise sharply defined, a shallow and meandering planchet lamination in the left obverse field interferes somewhat with the detail to star 3. Handsome honey-orange patina throughout, the surfaces are also fully endowed with satiny mint luster. Mint errors of any kind are highly elusive on classic U.S. Mint gold coinage, especially double eagles since the Mints quality control procedures were usually exceptionally tight for these high face value coins. A rare one that "slipped through" the cracks, this double eagle would serve with distinction in an advanced cabinet of Mint errors.
