1827 Capped Bust Half Dollar. O-109. Rarity-4-. Square Base 2. MS-62 (PCGS). CAC. A significant offering for the advanced collector of Capped Bust half dollar die varieties. For starters, this is an upper end coin for the assigned grade with a full endowment of lively satin luster. Iridescent champagne-pink and pale apricot toning is more extensive on the reverse, both sides with an otherwise sharp strike that wanes in only a few isolated areas. Wispy handling marks on the obverse are all that seem to preclude an even higher grade. This is a scarce, conditionally challenged die pairing for which Stephen J. Herrman (Spring 2021) lists only five Mint State examples. The coin offered here is not included therein, making it a newcomer to the Condition Census for the 1827 Overton-109 dies. From the James D. Brilliant Collection.
