1946-S Walking Liberty Half Dollar. MS-67+ (PCGS). CAC. Wonderfully original, expertly preserved surfaces will impress even the most exacting numismatists. Dusted with pale antique-silver tinting, the surfaces are enhanced by partial crescents of golden-orange peripheral toning that are more pronounced on the obverse. The strike, luster quality and level of preservation are all outstanding.<p>The 1946-S is the most plentiful San Francisco Mint Walking Liberty half dollar issue in Mint State. Clearly many examples were kept from entering circulation, certainly due to the relatively limited mintage of 3,724,000 pieces (although the 1946-S did not benefit from contemporary hoarding to the same extent as the 1946-D). Indeed, the 1946-D is more plentiful than the 1946-S, as are the 1941, 1942 and 1943. Such comparisons lose all meaning in the finest Mint State grades, however, for all Walking Liberty half dollar "short set" issues are rare in PCGS MS-67+, and the 1946-S is unknown any finer at this service. The coveted CAC sticker confirms this lovely Superb Gem as one of the very finest 1946-S half dollars available to todays collectors. From the Lulu Collection, the #1 all-time finest PCGS Walking Liberty Half Dollars Short Set.
