1918 Life Saving Service of the City of New York Four-Part Handing Badge. Bronze. About Uncirculated. 32 mm x 101 mm. An intricate and highly detailed four-part handing badge, the top component of which is a pinback hanger surmounted by a spread wing eagle with the name of the recipient, HOWARD HERBOLD, above a rescue scene. Suspended from that are two identical figural pieces of a rescue team in a rowboat attending to a victim, each with the inscription FOR SAVING FROM DROWNINHG above. The lowest part of the badge is comprised of the Services logo, the back inscribed THROGGS NECK / JULY 29TH 1918 with the number 41 stamped at bottom center and flanked by UNION MADE seal left, V. BENZ / N.Y right.
