E.J. CHAPIN three times on an 1854 Liberty Seated quarter. Brunk C-350, Rulau-NY 2019D. Host coin Very Fine. E.J. Chapin was a clock and watch dealer and jeweler located in Clyde, NY. Chapin was a watchmaker from Chickopee Falls, Massachusetts, who moved his family to New York and later, in 1858, to Illinois, later still to Indianapolis, Indiana where he manufactured tools for blacksmiths and gasfitters. In 1862, Chapin patented an improvement in watchmakers lathes. In 1891 he was granted a patent for a steam engine cut-off mechanism.
