PEIRCE in a box punch counterstamped on a 1791-NG-M Guatemalan 2 Reales. Brunk P-320, Rulau-Unlisted. Host coin Very Good. Several sources list this stamp as that of John Peirce who was a silversmith with a shop in Boston, MA from 1809-1816. Although the stamp is certainly of a smith of some kind, a quick look through Boston directories from the time period he supposedly worked show no silversmiths under the last name of Peirce let alone one named John. The attribution seems to originate from Ensko (1948), but where he got the information is unknown. Some further research is encouraged and needed to confirm this.From the Steve M.
