BERSON in a serrated box punch on an 1820 Capped Bust dime JR-10. Brunk B-609, HT-560. Host coin Very Good. A beautifully toned well struck counterstamp! Brunk lists the following about Berson: "This hallmark probably was used by William or Solomon Berson. The former was in business in Franklin and Brownsville, Tennessee from 1834 to 1838. The latter worked in Brownsville from 1834 to 1858 (according to Kovel 1989: 32)". William and Solomon were father/son who worked together as W. & S. BERSON. Brunk believes this is the stamp of the son Solomon. This is an important and rare early Tennessee counterstamp and the only example reported. The Rulau plate coin. From the Steve M. Tompkins Collection. Purchased from Dennis Tarrant.
