1852 Sterling Silver California Slug Souvenir Spoon Made with an Impression of an Octagonal United States Assay Office of Gold $50 in the Bowl. Nearly As Made.6 inches. 29.08 grams. A large figural spoon with a prospector holding his pick in one hand and displaying a large gold nugget in the other standing atop a curved floral stem which is stamped STERLING on the back. The 2-inch round bowl bears an intricate replica of a United States Assay Office of Gold $50 "slug." The representation is very close to Kagin-14, but with KUNER F added beneath the eagle. The bowl is gilt within the replica design, presenting a pleasing contrast to the silver of the rest of the piece. A piece that would make an interesting addition to a collection of territorial gold or Western memorabilia.
