1836 Capped Bust Half Dollar. Lettered Edge. O-101. Rarity-1. MS-64 (NGC).Richly toned in steel-gray, subtle pinkish-rose highlights are also present to further enhance the surfaces. This is not a well struck die pairing and, indeed, the present example is noticeably soft in the centers. The detail, however, does sharpen considerably toward the peripheries. Generally smooth in hand, as befits the assigned grade, a dull mark on the bridge of Libertys nose serves as a useful identifier. While Overton-101 may be a plentiful die marriage of the final year 1836 Lettered Edge half dollar issue in an absolute sense, the present example is tied for CC#3 based on the listing in the Autumn 2020 revision to Stephen J.
