1819/8 Capped Bust Half Dollar. O-103. Rarity-5. Large 9. AU-58 (PCGS).Warmly and originally toned surfaces combine with bold to sharp striking detail to make this a particularly appealing example of a scarce Capped Bust half dollar variety. The obverse exhibits dominant mauve-gray patina with crescents of vivid golden-orange and cobalt blue iridescence at lower left. For the reverse we note golden-blue peripheral highlights surrounding a pewter-gray center. Much of the original finish remains to further confirm the validity of the coveted Choice AU grade from PCGS, the fields noticeably semi-reflective when viewed with the aid of direct lighting. Given that the Autumn 2020 revision to Stephen J. Herrmans Auction & Mail Bid Prices Realized for Bust Half Dollars: 1794-1839</em> lists only two Mint State examples of the 1819/8 O-103 variety (as well as three additional Uncs for the O-103a die state), this lovely PCGS AU-58 certainly ranks among the finest known for the die pairing.PCGS# 39557.
