Complete Set of 1954 "Cradle of the Union" Celebration Medals, with original programs and Albany City guide from the Celebration.Included are: HK-510, Turner-A1, Rarity-4, silver, Mint State; HK-511, Turner-A1, Rarity-7, gold, MS-63 DPL (NGC); and HK-512, Turner-A1, Rarity-3, bronze, Mint State. Each example is 38 mm in diameter, the silver and bronze examples housed in a custom red plastic holder with the inscriptions "CRADLE OF THE UNION" MEDALS / ISSUED AT / ALBANY, N.Y. JUNE 24TH, 1954 / 200TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE CONGRESS OF 1754. The case includes a slot that once housed the gold medal, now certified by NGC, as above.HK-511 in gold is obviously the highlight of this set, the mintage in this composition limited to just 50 specimens, though it is unclear if all 50 were struck. Today, survivors are rare. Undoubtedly many were melted over the years and certainly others were badly mishandled. This lot also includes several fascinating documents from the "Cradle of the Union" Celebration: (2) copies of the Celebration program, both essentially as made with no significant blemishes; first day of issue ceremonies program, with a vertical fold, light soiling on the back; and an Albany City guide, "Cradle of the Union" edition, 1954, with light to moderate handling and some writing throughout. The "Cradle of the Union" Celebration was held in Albany, New York, June 20-26, 1954. (Total: 3 medals, 1 case, 4 documents)
