1795 Flowing Hair Half Dollar. O-119, T-1. Rarity-4. Two Leaves. VF Details--Repaired (PCGS). In the 2015 reference <em>Early United States Half Dollars, Volume 1: 1794-1807</em>, Steve M. Tompkins lists this as the first die pairing of the 1795-dated half dollar issue. If true, then the mintage for this variety was likely included in the Mints half dollar deliveries of February 4 and/or March 3, 1795, the totals for which are 18,164 and 60,660 coins, respectively. (Most or all of the February 4 delivery was likely comprised of 1794-dated examples.) The 1795 O-119 die pairing is one of the more frequently encountered for the issue in todays market, and a number of Mint State coins dominate the Condition Census. This is a more affordable VF that will appeal to budget minded type collectors as well as series specialists. Tompkins Die Stage 3-4/1.
