1859-O. PCGS graded AU-55. This is a rarely offered date and mint, and one of more popular and somewhat more obtainable of the New Orleans early Twenties. This one offers strong visual appeal as well as high technical grade. Only a handful are known this well preserved, with so little circulation evidence on the surfaces. The open fields are pleasing with minimal signs of handling or bagmarks, and similarly Libertys neck and cheek are free of deep or detracting nicks. Horizontal shield lines from the reverse die are boldly clashed at the back of Libertys jaw line above her ear. Nicely toned with a touch of coppery gold attesting to the originality. Some luster is visible. Issued on the cusp of the outbreak of the Civil War and no doubt a high value $20 gold piece that was squirreled away and saved for better times ahead soon after it was coined.
