1944-D, D over S. PCGS graded MS-66+ Red. CAC. PQ. A fully red example. The surfaces are pristine, with glowing mint copper red throughout. This blundered mintmark started out as a San Francisco Mint obverse die, then after the S was partially effaced, a D for Denver was put into its place. The top of the underlying S clearly shows above the D. This has always been in high demand since Delma K. Romines discovered this mint blunder in 1962. Naturally most had entered circulation by then, and precious few gems exist today. This is one of the very finest seen by PCGS and is perfect for an advanced Set Registry collection. PCGS Price Guide shows $23,500. Pop 3; 4 finer, 3 in 67, 1 in 67+. (PCGS # 2728) <DOTLEADER> Estimated Value $13,000 - UP
