1820 N-4 R4 Small Date PCGS graded AU55, CAC Approved. Lustrous tan and light steel brown with hints of underlying reddish steel faded down from mint color in a few of the protected areas on the obverse. Would be choice except for a couple light diagonal scratches in the field before the neck and chin and a small nick on the line below the E in CENT. E-MDS with segments of the inner circle still visible off the dentil tips on the left side of the obverse and the center dot on the reverse weak but visible. There are a couple shallow low spots inside the wreath caused by debris (lubricant) on the die. This cent is plated in John Wrights reference on the cents of 1816-1839 to illustrate the die variety. Graded AU50 and tied for CC#2 in the Noyes census, his photo #27786. Our grade is AU50. The attribution and Twin Leaf Collection provenance are noted on the PCGS label. PCGS #36688. Pop 1; only 1 example graded higher in 64 at PCGS for the variety. <DOTLEADER> Estimated Value $1,750 - UP <I><BR>Ex Denis Loring-R. S. Brown, Jr., Superior 9/30/1986:531-Stuart A.
