Winstead, Connecticut. Winstead Bank. April 1, 18xx $1. PCGS Currency Very Fine 30.(CT-475 G6a) Plate B. Apr. 1, 1862. Imprint of ABNCo. Central vignette of young boy flanked by cherubs. Mother and son oak bucket scene at left. Male portrait at right. Intense green inks add to the impressive visual impact. PCGS notes Repairs, masked rust stains. The Winsted Bank was chartered in 1848 and was profitable initially. In 1856 the state Assembly voted to repeal the banks charter unless it paid the required 2% of its capital. It struggled to stay in business during the 1860s and closed its doors in 1868. This is the nicest of the handful of examples we have seen.
