ROMAN REPUBLIC. Anonymous. AE As, Rome Mint, 189-180 B.C. NGC EF. Cr-145/1; Syd-293. Obverse: Laureate head of bearded Janus; I (mark of value) above; Reverse: Prow of galley right; I (mark of value) to right; above, Victory flying right, holding palm frond and wreath, and upright spearhead. A decidedly attractive example of the type often encountered very crude and poorly formed. Assuredly worthy of an elite bid.
