Houston added his courtesy autograph above his engraved signature on the face of this lightly circulated $5 Federal Reserve Note from the St. Louis district.David Franklin Houston was born in Monroe, North Carolina in 1866 and was a graduate of the University of South Carolina. He was nominated by Woodrow Wilson to replace Carter Glass as the 48th secretary of the Treasury in February of 1920. He served just a year, resigning at the end of Wilsons term in office.
