Overstruck on an 1822-LIMA JP Peru "Libre" 8 Reales. Signs of the original host are visible near the date on the obverse and on the reverse near "ET" of the legend. An attractively toned survivor with luster in the protected areas. Royalist forces reoccupied the city of Lima between 17 June and 18 July 1823. Before departing they removed the majority of the minting equipment, moved it the to fortress Real Felipe in Callao and burned down the mint.
