GREAT BRITAIN. Crown, 1902. London Mint. PCGS MATTE PROOF-66.S-3979; KM-803. Obtainable as a type in lower grades, but seldom available at the Gem tier. At the premium Gem, PR-66 classification, its conditional rarity becomes even more apparent, with a minuscule total of three coins graded between PCGS and NGC, with none deemed finer. A close look at this piece is indeed enlightening; delicate brownish-gray tone traverses the surfaces on both sides and unlike the typical survivor, no contact marks are seen. Adding to that, the wispy hairlines that are notorious throughout all denominations from this Coronation issue are virtually absent, with the few instances that exist and hiding beneath the tone. All considered, an important opportunity for the Crown collector that considers seeking "finest quality" items a foundational pillar of their collecting experience.
