BELGIUM. Flanders. Chaise dOr, ND (1346-84). Louis II de Male. NGC MS-63.Fr-163; Delm-466. Obverse: King enthroned facing with skyward pointing sword in right hand and lion on shield in left hand; Reverse: Floriated cross surrounded by quadrilobe. A well struck and nicely centered example with full legends and bold central devices. Attractive light tone with minor debris amongst the devices lending to its originality. A choice example with a nice look certain to garner much attention. It is interesting to note that the first letter of the legend in the exergue "G" in "GRA" appears to be an unidentified letter over the "G". The style of the "G" is usually rounded and appears to look like a "6", but the letter in this case has an ornamented top arm, a small curved spur at the base as well as serifs extending from the top and bottom of the stem. An interesting variety that we can find no record of in the literature at our disposal.
