Circa 1876 New York medal club medal No. 1. Musante GW-960, Baker-200. Silver. MS-65+ (PCGS).31.4 mm. One of the more attractively toned silver pieces from this collection. Light silver gray is dominant, while the obverse is gently accented by rose and faint greenish gold. The reverse is medium silver gray on the portrait alone, but the fields are richly toned violet and blue-green, creating a pleasant contrast that goes beyond the usual satin vs prooflike texture differences. Beautifully preserved and rare in silver. According to Musante, L. Bayard Smith reported that just 10 were struck in silver.Ex William Spohn Baker Collection, to the Historical Society of Pennsylvania by bequest, November 15, 1897.
