TURKEY. Countermarked Venetian Zecchino, ND (ca. 18th Century). PCGS AU-58 Gold Shield.Fr-1332; KM-313.3; ICV-3223; Paolucci-1. Weight: 3.47 gms. An interesting countermarked issue produced around the turn of the 18th century using a Venetian Zecchino of Domenico Contarini as the host coin. The Arabic countermark, commonly attributed to the Ottoman Empire (Turkey), reading Sahih (correct or current) is deeply punched in to the right obverse field. The surfaces are slightly deformed from the countermark, though they are otherwise quite lustrous and without notable blemishes. RARE, and exceptionally so in this level of preservation. Just two examples of this countermarked issue have been certified by PCGS and this one is the finest. Ex: Dr. Hans Wilski Collection.
