1882年亚利桑那州凤凰城10元 PMG XF 40
Phoenix, Territory of Arizona. $10 1882 Brown Back. Fr. 485. The Phoenix NB. Charter #4729. PMG Extremely Fine 40.Our 2019 American Numismatic Association auction is chock-full of fresh and exciting national banknotes. The first highlight of the night is this $20 territorial brown back from Arizona. It was just recently discovered in Ohio. We owe the survival of this note to Robert Bashford Burmister. This is the first banknote Mr. Burmister signed as acting cashier in Phoenix. Interestingly enough, Burmister was also the first cashier at a little institution in San Francisco, that being The Bank of Italy National Trust and Savings Association aka The Bank of America. Nine different banks issued 1882 brown backs in the Territory of Arizona. A total of seventeen notes of all denominations of the type are documented as surviving. Four of that total are twenties. Four are brown backs from The Phoenix National Bank. And to keep with the theme, four of the seventeen brown backs are listed as XF. That is the highest grade of the group. Certainly if you are considering an Arizona territorial and cant pay $100,000+ for a red seal or first charter, and dont want to settle for a blue seal or ugly second charter, then this example should be worthy of careful consideration. PMG does note some restoration, but the signatures are bold, the colors are vibrant, and the note is directly from the Burmister estate.
