1844-D Liberty Head Half Eagle. Winter 11-H, the only known dies. AU-58 (PCGS).This thoroughly appealing half eagle offers sharp striking detail and ample satin luster. Subtle silvery highlights are seen over otherwise golden-orange surfaces. Vying with the 1843-D and 1845-D as the most readily obtainable Dahlonega Mint half eagle from the 1840s, the 1844-D is still a scarce issue in an absolute sense. In solidly graded and attractive Choice AU, as here, this issue is nothing short of rare.
