1864 Philadelphia Sanitary Fair Medal. Bronze. 57.8 mm. Julian CM-44. Mint State. An endearing medium brown example with modestly semi-reflective fields, the finish predominantly of a hard satin texture. Wispy handling marks and a few well scattered carbon flecks are all that prevent us from assigning a Choice Mint State grade. The Philadelphia Great Central Fair was the largest of several sanitary fairs held to raise money for the care of Union soldiers wounded during the Civil War. Only 901 of these bronze medals were produced.
