1875-S Liberty Head Double Eagle. MS-61 (PCGS). CAC.Intensely lustrous golden-orange surfaces are frosty in texture with a predominantly sharp strike from the dies. The San Francisco Mint turned out 1,230,000 double eagles in 1875 for a total face value of $24,600,000. Some of the mintage was sent overseas and later many lower range Mint State examples of the date were returned to the United States. Perhaps 1,000 to 1,500 Uncirculated examples exist, most of which grade no finer than MS-61, as here. An ideal candidate for inclusion in a Mint State gold type set. From the Fairmont Collection.
